How we saved 10 hours per week on Amazon product listings (…steal this hack for your eCommerce business)

Managing thousands of products on Amazon can be a nightmare.

Especially when they keep changing their flatfile formats.

Here's how we streamlined this process:

1️⃣ Created a "Source of Truth" spreadsheet

Let's dive into what this means:

We built a master spreadsheet that contains every piece of information about our products. This includes:

- Product names
- Descriptions
- Prices
- SKUs
- Categories
- Dimensions
- Weight
- Keywords
- And much more

This spreadsheet became our central hub for all product information. Whenever we need to update or reference product data, we go to this one place.

The key is to make this spreadsheet comprehensive. We included every possible attribute Amazon might ask for, even if we weren't using it yet.

2️⃣ Built a custom Google Sheets script

This is where the magic happens. We created a script to auto-map our data to new Amazon formats that essentially does the heavy lifting for us. Here's how it works:

- When Amazon changes their flatfile format, we copy the new headers into our spreadsheet
- Our script then automatically matches our "Source of Truth" data to the new Amazon format
- It fills in all the right information in the correct columns, no matter how Amazon has rearranged things

This script saves us countless hours of manual data entry and more importantly reduces the risk of errors.

3️⃣ Let it run like clockwork

The process is now incredibly simple:

1. Copy new Amazon flatfile headers
2. Paste them into our spreadsheet
3. Run our custom script
4. Copy the resulting data
5. Paste into the new Amazon flatfile
6. Upload to Amazon

What used to take hours now takes minutes.

The result?

We save 5-10 hours every single week.

That's 40+ hours per month we can spend on growth instead of data entry.

And we're using this for thousands of unique products.
